Williams eye Jenson Button for 2017 return ‘home’ to the team that gave him his Grand Prix debut

Jenson Button is on the short-list to drive for Williams in 2017.

The 36-year-old could make an emotional return to the team that gave him his Grand Prix break as a 19-year-old in 2000.

MirrorSport has learned 2009 world champion Button is high on a list that also includes Brazil’s Felipe Massa and Finn Valtterie Bottas.

With neither of those men bringing in significant finance, the power of public support in England and his popularity with sponsors could swing things in the direction of the boy from Frome.

Team boss Frank Williams is known to be a firm fan.

Unlike last season, when Button had to wait on current employers McLaren to decide whether they would take up the option on his services, his future is in his own hands
