• Protracted row over use of Lotus name is resolved
• Lotus team to become Caterham, Renault to become Lotus
The Formula One teams Lotus, Renault and Virgin Racing have all been given the go ahead to change their names for next season. The move means the row over the Lotus name has been brought to an end.
From 2012, Team Lotus will be known as Caterham, Renault will become Lotus and Virgin Racing will be Marussia.
There has been a long-running dispute between Team Lotus and the car company Group Lotus over the use of the name. Team Lotus will now bear the name of the Caterham brand which is also owned by their team principal Tony Fernandes. Renault will now be the only team associated with Lotus.
The changes still need to be accepted by the FIA’s World Motor Sport Council but the decision is expected to be a formality.
